Looking for plain advice
Last month my cousin finished a stretch of motivational interview vs cognitive behavioral therapy for his health goals. He said MI was better when he felt totally stuck, CBT when the negative self-talk kicked in hard. I’m starting to notice the same patterns and would love simple recommendations before I book anything.

Your cousin's experience sounds a lot like mine. I kept thinking I needed CBT right away, but my counselor noticed I wasn't even convinced I could make changes yet. We spent a few sessions using motivational interviewing first, and that made me much more open to doing the CBT work afterward. Before starting, I found this overview really useful: motivational interview training for healthcare professionals . It explains the approach in plain language without making it feel overly clinical.
